It’s all well and good when ATI or nVidia release the next Radeon or GeForce for mobile platforms, and the performance seen from them in the past 2 years has been incredible on laptops. Luckily for the serious developer, such as AutoCAD users, they aren’t forgetting workstation mobile users either. ATI is releasing the FireGL V5200, featuring 5 vertex engines and 12 pixel shaders. Based on the X1600, it’s a card that is sure to have decent performance with 256MB of RAM, a 128-bit memory bus and a PCI-Ex connection to the motherboard. Lenova, who own the Thinkpad series now, will already be incorporating this new chip into their boards. We’ll likely see more fairly soon.
